Volunteer Information
(program suspended for Summer 2010 due to lack of funding)

HOPE partners with the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) for recruiting and scheduling volunteer groups; however, HOPE's Volunteer Service Program does NOT operate under the same guidelines as ASP's Summer Volunteer Program. Specific differences include:

bullet

Volunteers will provide and prepare their own food (local churches may provide some dinners).

bullet

Volunteers will have either 1/2 day or a whole day off to enjoy local area attractions.

bullet

There will be only one flat fee per volunteer (ASP charges individual fees AND work crew fees).

bullet

HOPE will not organize formal evening gatherings; however, group led events are welcomed.

bullet

HOPE offers a relaxed atmosphere. After the work day is over, you are able to go and come as you please with many activities available for your enjoyment (some within minutes of where you will be staying).

Application and Fees

Applications for the 2010 summer program will be available in March 2010.

There is a group registration fee to secure your group's spot in HOPE's summer program.

There is a volunteer fee per person for one week, which includes lodging at HOPE's Volunteer Center and the cost of materials. At least 30% of the volunteer fee goes directly towards materials. The more volunteers we have, the higher the percentage of materials we can buy. Scholarships are available. Contact Michelle Eller at (276) 228-6280, Ext. 212, or email meller@wythehope.org for scholarship information.

Rules and Expectations

HOPE has established certain Rules and Expectations to make the Volunteer Service Program operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible. All volunteers MUST read and abide by these Rules and Expectations.

Click here for HOPE's Volunteer Service Program Rules and Expectations (pdf).

Area Attractions

Southwest Virginia offers many recreational and historical attractions for volunteers to enjoy during their visit. Hiking, biking and nature activities abound.
